Young Swallow Learning to Fly Colouring Page

A young swallow launches from a low branch for one of its first short flights. Both pointed wings are spread, its small feet have just left the perch and its developing forked tail helps it balance. Open space around the bird keeps the learning-to-fly pose clear. How to colour: Use deep slate blue for the young bird's crown, back and wings, softer blue-grey on the shorter feathers, and warm cream for the chest and belly. Add muted chestnut to the forehead and throat, charcoal to the forked tail and pale grey to the bill and feet. Colour the branch warm brown and the leaves fresh green. Begin with light layers, follow each flight feather from base to tip, and darken only where the wing feathers overlap. Add a soft grey shadow beneath the bird and keep the feather edges crisp.
