Warthog Piglets Colouring

Walk across the sunny savanna with a warthog and three lively piglets! Common warthogs are native to sub-Saharan Africa, where they live in grasslands, open woodland, and bushy places with water nearby. An adult can measure about 90 to 150 centimetres from nose to rump and may weigh roughly 50 to 150 kilograms. Males are usually larger than females. In the wild, warthogs often live around 7 to 15 years. Their name comes from the harmless padded bumps on the face. These are not true warts; they help protect the head, especially when adults push or defend themselves. A warthog is a wild pig with a broad snout, curved tusks, a bristly mane, and a thin tail that often points straight up when it runs. It kneels on its tough front wrists to nibble short grass and can use its snout and tusks to uncover roots and bulbs. Warthogs also eat fruit and other plant food. They usually rest in old burrows made by aardvarks or other animals. An adult often backs into a burrow so its tusks face the entrance, while piglets can tuck safely behind. Mothers and young may travel in family groups called sounders, and the piglets follow closely as they learn where to graze and drink. This page shows the adult leading three piglets through broad grass clumps, with a low hill and an acacia tree in the distance. Warthogs are commonly greyish brown, but you can choose warm brown, tan, or soft grey. Make the mane dark brown or black, the inner ears pinkish, and the tusks ivory or cream. Piglets may be a lighter sandy brown so they stand out beside the parent. Colour the savanna grasses golden yellow, olive green, or a mixture that looks sun-dried. The distant tree can have a brown trunk and green crown, while the hills might be ochre or pale orange. Start with light colour on the large open bodies, then add slightly darker strokes along the mane, knees, and hooves. Keep the tusks bright, and draw a few tiny hoofprints behind the family if you like. A blue sky or a glowing sunset can complete their warm African journey.
