Voorburg Cropper Colouring

The Voorburg Shield Cropper is a friendly Dutch fancy pigeon with a white body, coloured wing shields, a rounded inflatable crop, and a slim upright stance. The word shield means the broad group of covert feathers covering each folded wing. On a correctly marked bird, those shields are coloured while the rest of the visible body stays white, apart from the white primary flights within the wing. The pigeon is medium-small, standing between the tiny Brunner Pouter and larger Norwich Cropper in size. It has clean, fairly long legs and moves with lively, graceful hops. Dutch rare-breed sources describe it as trusting, active, a good parent, and responsive to people. No special breed lifespan study exists, but a healthy domestic pigeon may often live around 8 to 15 years. This breed has unusually clear history. Dutch breeder, artist, and geneticist Cornelis Simon Theodorus van Gink dreamed of a white cropper with coloured wing shields. He began the breeding project in 1929, displayed early results in 1935, and achieved official Dutch recognition in 1938. He used several cropper and shield-marked breeds to combine the right body, globe, colour, and pattern. The breed was named for Voorburg near The Hague, where the work took place. Van Gink's documented role makes this one of the few pigeon breeds in the list with a securely identified creator and timeline. Begin by leaving the main body white. Choose one rich colour for both outlined wing shields: black, red, yellow, blue, silver, or another recognised shade. Keep the primary flight spaces white so the shield pattern remains crisp. Add a faint pearl-grey shadow along the belly and globe, but do not cover the clean white look. The eyes can be dark, and the legs warm red. Colour the tulips brightly, the bridge grey or brown, and the canal pale blue. Use pencils around the shield edges and individual flight feathers; a broad crayon is useful for the background. Make both shields look balanced, even if only one is fully visible. For a fantasy bird, create turquoise shields with golden bars while keeping the white body and animated Dutch-garden character.
