Turbit Pigeon Colouring

Turbit is a domestic fancy pigeon connected with Oriental ancestry with the modern British Turbit developed and standardized in Great Britain. The Turbit is known for its white body, clearly coloured wing shields, compact cobby shape, short beak, upright carriage, pointed rear crest and reversed-feather frill running down the breast. It is a medium but compact owl-type pigeon, with short flights and tail making it appear pleasantly rounded. This is not a wild species with a natural forest or mountain range; it belongs in a clean, dry, well-ventilated loft or aviary where it has suitable perches, fresh water, balanced pigeon food and safe room to move. History detectives should be careful with old breeds. The British standard traces the breed to Oriental sources and notes possible kinship with other old owl pigeons. Similar birds were mentioned by European writers in the seventeenth century and by John Moore in 1735; Turbits were once valued as flying pigeons. A specialist club formed in Britain in 1879. Because no trustworthy record names a single inventor, the breed should be credited to many generations of fanciers. Turbit-like birds appear in European writings from the 1600s, and the British breed club formed in 1879. No single founding breeder or exact creation year is reliably documented. A healthy domestic pigeon often lives about 8–15 years, and some well-cared-for birds live longer. Lifespan depends on good food, clean water, safe housing, gentle handling, parasite control and help from an avian veterinarian when needed. Fancy features may need extra attention: short-beaked birds must be watched at feeding time, large croppers need sensible husbandry, and heavily feathered feet should be kept dry and clean. This page is for learning and colouring, not a guide to keeping a bird without an experienced adult. In this scene, a peak-crested Turbit stands beside a cottage loft perch, ivy leaves and flowers. The background is deliberately simple so the breed remains the star and young artists have large spaces to fill. Keep most of the body white, then turn each outlined wing shield into a bold patch of blue, black, red, yellow, silver or dun. Darker wing bars or tiny checks can be added if you enjoy patterns. A pale beak, orange eye and rosy feet will suit the bird. Colour the ivy green, cottage timber warm brown and the simple flowers red, purple or gold. Work around the pointed crest and curly breast frill slowly so those special shapes remain visible. Do not colour across the shield boundary. Children can begin with the pigeon, move to the nearest plants or building, and finish with the ground. Crayons, pencils or washable markers all work well; a scrap sheet beneath the page can protect the table.
