Table Tennis Colouring Page

Table tennis is a quick indoor racket game played across a low net on a table. It developed in England during the late nineteenth century as a compact version of lawn tennis and is now played worldwide. One player competes against one player in singles, or pairs play doubles. A serve begins with the light ball bouncing on the server’s side and then crossing the net. During the rally, each player returns the ball after one bounce on their side. Points are won through accurate placement, changing speed and spin, and staying ready—not by hitting wildly. Players use small paddles, also called bats, and a hollow plastic ball. Beginner paddles should be comfortable to grip, and the table area should be free from bags or loose balls. Children learn a balanced ready position, gentle forehand and backhand taps, simple serves, and quick side steps. They should never climb or sit on the table, swing a paddle near another person, or chase a ball into an unsafe area. Taking turns, keeping score honestly, returning the ball politely, and congratulating an opponent are important table tennis manners. Short cooperative rallies are excellent practice for hand-eye coordination and concentration. The colouring page shows two happy players on opposite ends of a complete table, each holding a compact round paddle while the tiny ball arcs over the centre net. Colour the table deep blue, green, or a playful bright shade, and keep the boundary and centre lines white. The net can be pale grey with darker posts. Choose contrasting paddle colours, such as red for one rubber face and black or purple for the other, leaving the handles light brown. Give each child a different shirt-and-shorts combination so both figures are easy to follow. Try yellow with teal and coral with navy. The ball is often white or orange, so a light peach outline can help it stand out. Colour the room walls very lightly, the bench warm brown, and the view through the windows sky blue with green treetops. Use smooth broad strokes on the table and wall, then slow down for the net squares and shoe laces. Keep the tiny ball clear and bright so children can spot the centre of the rally immediately.
