Syrian Turbiteen Colouring

Syrian Turbiteen is a domestic fancy pigeon connected with Syria and the wider eastern Mediterranean/Mesopotamian region. It combines a short beak, neat peak crest, reversed-feather breast frill and lively compact body with striking coloured head spots, wing shields and tail areas on a mainly white bird. It is a small-to-medium frill pigeon, light enough for active flight but sturdy enough for exhibition. This is not a wild species with a natural forest or mountain range; it belongs in a clean, dry, well-ventilated loft or aviary where it has suitable perches, fresh water, balanced pigeon food and safe room to move. History detectives should be careful with old breeds. Standards and specialist accounts connect the breed with Syria and neighbouring Middle Eastern lands. Related Turbiteens were carried into Europe through Turkey near the end of the nineteenth century and were then maintained by European breeders. The exact village, first pairing and founding breeder have not been reliably preserved, so no person or year should be claimed as fact. An old Middle Eastern frill breed that reached European fanciers through Turkey in the late nineteenth century. No single founding breeder or exact creation year is reliably documented. A healthy domestic pigeon often lives about 8–15 years, and some well-cared-for birds live longer. Lifespan depends on good food, clean water, safe housing, gentle handling, parasite control and help from an avian veterinarian when needed. Fancy features may need extra attention: short-beaked birds must be watched at feeding time, large croppers need sensible husbandry, and heavily feathered feet should be kept dry and clean. This page is for learning and colouring, not a guide to keeping a bird without an experienced adult. In this scene, a Syrian Turbiteen stands beneath a stone arch beside an olive branch, water bowl and leafy planter. The background is deliberately simple so the breed remains the star and young artists have large spaces to fill. Keep much of the body white, then colour the outlined head spots, wing shields and tail black, deep blue, red, yellow, dun or dilute blue. Make the peak crest match the head colour if you like. Add a pale beak, amber eye and rosy feet. The arch may be sandy beige, the water bowl terracotta and the olive leaves soft green with purple-green olives. Trace the crest and frill visually before colouring so you do not lose their shapes. Smooth, light crayon strokes will keep the page clean. Children can begin with the pigeon, move to the nearest plants or building, and finish with the ground. Crayons, pencils or washable markers all work well; a scrap sheet beneath the page can protect the table.
