Steiger Pouter Colouring

Steiger Pouter is a domestic fancy pigeon connected with Historic Silesia, Bohemia and Moravia in Central Europe. The breed has a lively, proud manner, a smooth oval crop, long streamlined but powerful body, clean legs and a balanced stance with more of the body carried in front of the legs than behind. It is a medium-sized cropper, substantial yet sleeker than the giant feather-footed Dutch or Ghent breeds. This is not a wild species with a natural forest or mountain range; it belongs in a clean, dry, well-ventilated loft or aviary where it has suitable perches, fresh water, balanced pigeon food and safe room to move. History detectives should be careful with old breeds. The German pigeon association places its roots in Silesia, Bohemia and Moravia. The specialist club was founded in 1906. Historical notes explain that older birds were smaller and lower; English and French croppers were later crossed in to improve height and form. Many breeders participated across several regions, and no trustworthy source identifies one sole founder or exact creation year. A traditional Central European cropper with a German specialty club dating to 1906; later breeding used English and French croppers to increase stance. No single founding breeder is reliably documented. A healthy domestic pigeon often lives about 8–15 years, and some well-cared-for birds live longer. Lifespan depends on good food, clean water, safe housing, gentle handling, parasite control and help from an avian veterinarian when needed. Fancy features may need extra attention: short-beaked birds must be watched at feeding time, large croppers need sensible husbandry, and heavily feathered feet should be kept dry and clean. This page is for learning and colouring, not a guide to keeping a bird without an experienced adult. In this scene, a streamlined Steiger Pouter stands before a Central European farm fence, hills and flowers. The background is deliberately simple so the breed remains the star and young artists have large spaces to fill. Steiger Pouters may be black, red, yellow, white, blue barred, blue check, cream-isabell or pale barred varieties. Pick one main body colour, then add two neat wing bars or a light pattern if desired. Give the eye a bright pale or orange tone, the beak a matching horn shade and the feet red. Colour the hills green, fence brown and flowers red and blue. Use long strokes on the streamlined wings and gentle circular strokes around the oval crop so its curve remains obvious. Children can begin with the pigeon, move to the nearest plants or building, and finish with the ground. Crayons, pencils or washable markers all work well; a scrap sheet beneath the page can protect the table.
