Spruce Tree Colouring Page

Spruces are evergreen conifers in the genus Picea. They are native to cool northern forests and mountain regions across North America, Europe, and Asia. Depending on the species, a mature spruce may reach about 20 to 60 metres, with some growing taller. Many live for 150 to 500 years in a stable forest. A spruce usually has a pointed top and a neat cone-shaped outline. Its short needles attach singly around the twig and are often stiff and four-sided. Spruce cones hang downward from branches, an easy clue that helps separate them from the upright cones of true firs. Winter makes the spruce's layered form especially clear. Flexible branches and a pointed crown help shed heavy snow, while dense lower limbs create shelter from cold wind. Deer may rest nearby, although they eat many different forest plants. Owls use evergreen branches as quiet perches and hunt small animals without needing to disturb the tree. Seeds inside spruce cones feed squirrels and birds. Fallen needles slowly form an acidic forest floor where specialised mosses, fungi, and tiny creatures live. Children should watch wild deer and owls quietly, never offer food, and stay with an adult in snowy woodland because branches, ice, and cold weather can be dangerous. This page shows a full conical spruce, layered snowy branches, long hanging cones, a young deer, an owl, and simple forest hills. Colour the needles dark green, blue-green, or silvery green, changing the shade from one branch layer to the next. Cones can be cinnamon, tan, or deep brown, with lighter edges on their scales. Use grey-brown on the trunk where it appears. A deer can be warm tan with a cream belly and small white spots if you want it to look very young. The owl may combine cream, tawny brown, soft grey, and darker speckles. Leave the snow mostly white and trace its lower curves with pale blue or lavender. Distant trees should be lighter than the main spruce. Work slowly around the hanging cones and short needles, then use broader strokes on the animals and hills. Do not colour over every snowflake; open white sky gives the scene a crisp winter feeling. The completed page should make the spruce look like a safe green tent in a quiet snowy forest.
