Shot Put Colouring Page

Shot put is an athletics event that challenges a competitor to push a heavy round ball, called a shot, as far as possible. The event grew from older strength contests and became part of modern track and field. Athletes work inside a circular throwing area with a curved toe board at the front. The shot rests close to the neck, usually beneath the jaw, and is pushed away with one hand. It is not swung like a baseball and should never be thrown from far behind the head. The athlete may glide across the circle or rotate, but must keep control, release into the marked sector, and leave the circle correctly after the shot lands. Children's practice shots are much lighter and softer than adult competition equipment. Shot put develops leg power, balance, coordination, and careful timing. The strongest part of a good movement begins with the legs and hips, travels through the body, and finishes through the arm. Safety matters more than distance. A coach should choose suitable equipment, keep everyone behind a barrier, check that the landing area is empty, and give a clear signal before each attempt. Athletes walk to collect the shot only after permission. They also take turns, encourage one another, and measure fairly. On this page, the smiling young athlete is standing inside the circle with the shot held correctly beside the neck. The toe board, landing lines, coach, and boundary rope make the practice area easy to recognise. Colour the athlete's uniform with a bold pair such as blue and orange, purple and yellow, or green and white. The shot can be metallic grey, deep blue, or any imaginative colour you like. Try cream or pale grey for the concrete circle, green for the field, and rusty red for the distant track. The boundary rope could be bright yellow so it stands out as an important safety feature. Give the coach a cap and shirt in calm complementary colours. Use broad, even strokes on the grass and clothing, then use a sharpened pencil for shoe laces, fingers, and the small light tower circles. You can add a pale sky, but keep the large white spaces clean so the athlete remains the main focus. As you colour, notice the bent legs, raised elbow, and balanced stance that help turn strength into a safe, controlled push.
