Shepherds Star Colouring Page

Two shepherds and three sheep travel along a winding path toward a small stable beneath one brilliant star. This scene comes from the Christian Nativity story, in which shepherds go to welcome baby Jesus after hearing the news of his birth. An adult shepherd and a younger companion carry curved staffs, while the calm sheep walk beside them over a gentle hillside. A palm tree, a few stones and the distant stable help children follow the journey from foreground to background. Look closely at how every face turns toward the star and how the path curves through the page. For Christian families, the shepherds can represent trust, humble welcome and good news shared with ordinary people. Others can enjoy the scene respectfully as part of the Christmas story told in art and tradition. Start with the shepherds' robes. Earthy shades such as tan, rust, olive, cream and muted blue suit the simple travel clothing, but children may choose brighter festive colours. Make the head coverings different so the two figures are easy to distinguish. Use natural skin and hair tones, and colour the wooden staffs with light and dark brown. The three sheep can stay mostly white, with pale cream or grey along their woolly edges. Add pink or tan inside their ears and keep tiny highlights in their eyes. The great star should be the brightest part of the page. Colour it gold or sunny yellow, perhaps adding a pale yellow glow around its rays without covering the white sky. Use warm brown for the stable and straw-coloured yellow for the manger shape inside. The palm leaves can be green and the trunk brown, while the hillside may be soft green, sandy beige or a mixture of both. Younger children can colour the large robes, sheep and star first. Older artists can create light folds in fabric, different wool textures and two tones along the path to show distance. Avoid a solid dark night sky, because the clean white background keeps the figures easy to colour. Follow the winding path with a crayon and work carefully around the sheep's legs. The finished picture should feel gentle and hopeful, with the star clearly guiding everyone toward a peaceful destination.
