Santa Tree Surprise Colouring

Santa is quietly kneeling beside a large Christmas tree and placing one last wrapped present underneath it. He holds the box carefully with both hands while other gifts wait in a neat group. A small fireplace, window and simple ornaments create a peaceful room, as though everyone else is asleep. Look at the different bow shapes, count the round baubles and notice which present Santa is moving. The picture celebrates the excitement of a Christmas surprise, but it also highlights care: gifts are placed gently, the room is kept tidy and Santa tries not to wake anybody. Children can think about the happy feeling of preparing a surprise for someone they love. Make Santa's suit a strong red, green, blue or purple, with fluffy trim left white and lightly touched with pale blue. The tree can use more than one green: a lighter shade near branch tips and a darker shade closer to the trunk. Choose two or three ornament colours and repeat them in a pattern from top to bottom. A golden or yellow star topper will stand out clearly. Give every gift its own box-and-ribbon combination, such as blue with silver, red with green or pink with purple. Make the present in Santa's hands especially bright so viewers immediately understand the action. Use broad, even crayon strokes for the tree, Santa's coat and the floor. Smaller pencils are useful around bow loops, fingers, ornament caps and the flames in the fireplace. Younger children can colour the objects in flat cheerful shades. Older children may add tiny dots or stripes to plain gift panels, a gentle glow around the fire and darker green beneath overlapping branches. Keep white highlights on baubles and use yellow, orange and red in the flame from centre to edge. A light cream or warm beige wall will help Santa and the tree stand forward. Colour slowly where the gift overlaps his gloves so the shapes remain separate. Finish by adding soft shadows under the presents without filling the open white spaces. The completed scene should feel hushed, generous and full of the wonderful anticipation of Christmas morning.
