Rainbow Farm Animals Colouring

A broad rainbow stretches across a mild spring sky while two friendly horses and three woolly sheep share a green pasture. Fresh grass has grown after rain, and the rounded clouds are beginning to move away. Horses and sheep are grazing animals, which means they spend much of their day eating plants. A pasture gives them room to walk, rest and feed, while a sturdy fence helps keep them away from roads. Sheep have thick fleece that protects them from changing weather, and horses use their strong legs to travel quickly. Both animals need clean water, suitable food, shelter and kind care from responsible adults. Rainbows are not solid objects hanging in one place. They are circles of light formed when sunshine bends and reflects inside many tiny water droplets. From the ground we usually see only a colourful arch. Begin colouring the page with this large arch. The traditional order from the outer edge is red, orange, yellow, green, blue, indigo and violet. Use slow curved strokes and keep each colour inside its own wide band. You might also create a soft pastel rainbow if you want the animals to be the strongest part of the picture. Horses come in many natural colours. One could be chestnut brown with a golden mane, while the other could be grey, black, cream or spotted. Colour their manes and tails with strokes that follow the flowing hair. Sheep may have white, cream, grey or dark brown fleece. Use small curved motions around the fluffy wool, then colour their faces and legs tan, grey or black. Add several greens to the grass and bushes. The fence can be warm brown, weathered grey or clean white, and the clouds can have pale blue or lavender edges. Leave tiny white highlights in the animals' eyes and keep their faces gentle. Work around one animal at a time so legs and tails stay clear. While colouring, imagine the clean smell of wet grass and the quiet sounds of a peaceful field. This spring scene reminds young artists that sunshine can return after a shower and that well-cared-for farm animals can enjoy fresh pasture beneath a beautiful sky.
