Rainbow Duck Pond Colouring

A mother duck leads two ducklings across a calm pond while two frogs rest on lily pads beneath a rainbow. Cattails and broad leaves frame the water, making this a lively late-spring habitat. A rainbow may appear when sunlight shines through raindrops that are still floating in the air after a shower. The drops bend and reflect the light, revealing bands of colour. A rainbow is actually part of a circle, but the ground and horizon usually hide the lower section from people standing on land. Ponds may be small, yet they support an amazing community. Ducks find water plants, seeds, and tiny animals to eat. Their oily feathers help keep water away from the skin, and their webbed feet work like paddles. Ducklings stay near their mother for warmth and protection. Frogs begin as eggs in water, hatch into tadpoles, and slowly grow legs as they change into adults. Adult frogs use ponds to feed, hide, and reproduce. Cattails, lily pads, insects, snails, and fish can share the same habitat. Children should watch pond animals quietly from the bank, keep litter out of water, and never pick up an unknown frog or disturb a nest. Begin with broad rainbow bands in red, orange, yellow, green, blue, indigo, and violet. Colour the pond light blue or blue-green, adding a few darker curved ripples around each swimmer. A mother duck could be warm brown with a tan face, or green-headed and grey-bodied if you would like a mallard-inspired look. Ducklings are often yellow and soft brown. Frogs can be fresh green, olive, golden, or even spotted, but repeat similar shades on both so they belong to the same pond. Make lily pads medium green, reeds yellow-green, and cattails warm brown. Keep the sky pale so the arc remains bright. Use strokes that follow feather shapes on the ducks, small rounded strokes on frog bodies, and long strokes along reeds. Leave slim white highlights on the pond as reflections of clearing sunlight. The finished page should show how rain, sunshine, water, plants, and animals bring a spring pond to life.
