Polish Lynx Colouring

The Polish Lynx is a large, powerful fancy pigeon from western Galicia in Poland, especially the countryside around Kraków and Bochnia. Despite its cat-like name, it is completely pigeon! The breed has a broad chest, wide plain head, medium beak, sturdy legs, and a substantial field-pigeon body. Its wing pattern is the real attraction. Some varieties have two crisp white bars; others have white lacing or spangles across the coloured wing coverts. Traditional colours include blue, black, red, and yellow. The Polish Lynx was historically valued as both a useful farm pigeon and an exhibition bird. Exact modern live-weight figures vary by line and standard, so it is safest to call it a large utility-form breed. With proper loft care, domestic pigeons commonly live around 8 to 15 years, although individuals vary. The National Pigeon Association dates the breed to about 1868 and describes old Polish field pigeons from West Galicia. It records Professor J. van Rozwadowski of Kraków as an early person who brought Polish Lynx pigeons into Germany. Sources also describe development involving a now-extinct pouter or cropper type, which may help explain the deep chest. This does not prove that one person invented the breed, so no sole creator should be claimed. Polish agricultural history confirms that the Lynx was already praised around 1900 for size, hardiness, fertility, and attentive parenting. Choose one main colour for the bird: slate blue, coal black, chestnut red, or warm golden yellow. Keep the two wing bars white, then colour around the laced feather shapes carefully. If the bird is blue, add darker bars and a dark tail band. A soft green or purple gleam can decorate the neck. The beak may be dark horn, and the legs reddish pink. Colour the wheat golden, the fence brown, and the farm loft red-brown or grey. Use crayons for the big chest and background. Pencils make the repeating laced feathers easier: colour one row at a time, leaving each pale edge clear. Do not rush the pattern. A fantasy Lynx can have turquoise wings, silver bars, or rainbow lacing while keeping the strong body shape that makes the breed recognisable.
