Mookee Pigeon Colouring

The Mookee is an old fancy pigeon from India, especially associated with the south of the country. The National Pigeon Association classifies it with tumblers, rollers, and high flyers, although modern keepers also value its appearance. Its shell crest curves across the back of the head like a tiny fan, and its graceful neck may show a gentle trembling posture. The body is slim, the wings are carried low and neat, and the tail is fairly long. Traditional markings often give the bird a coloured body with a contrasting pale or white head and tail, making it especially fun to colour. The exact first breeder and date have not been reliably documented; the breed represents the work of many Indian and later international fanciers. It is a small-to-medium pigeon. There is no trustworthy Mookee-only lifespan figure, so responsible keepers focus on fresh water, balanced grain or pellets, shade, ventilation, clean perches, companionship, and protection from heat and predators. This colouring page places the Mookee in a southern Indian courtyard with a broad banana leaf and jasmine flowers. Try a deep red, golden yellow, charcoal, blue-grey, silver, or warm brown body. Leave the head and tail white or pale cream to make the traditional contrast easy to see. You can colour the shell crest the same shade as the head or add a darker edge. Banana leaves look lively in two greens, jasmine centres can be yellow, and the tiled step may be terracotta orange. Begin by deciding which feathers will stay light. Colour the body around those areas instead of covering the whole bird and trying to erase later. Follow the long wing and tail feathers with smooth strokes. Use a slightly darker pencil at the lower edge of the wing and beneath the crest to show depth. Keep the background simple and pale, because the head-and-tail pattern should be the first thing people notice. Young colourers can use two bold colours; older children can add tiny speckles or bars while keeping both sides balanced. Finish by drawing a few grains on the step and imagining the Mookee giving a gentle bow in the warm garden.
