Meerkat Pups Colouring

Meet a busy meerkat family beside its sandy home! Meerkats come from southern Africa, especially dry parts of Botswana, Namibia, South Africa, and Angola. Many live around the Kalahari and other open deserts, scrublands, and short grasslands where the soil is soft enough to dig. An adult meerkat is usually about 25 to 35 centimetres long before its tail is counted, so it is roughly the length of a school ruler. In the wild, a meerkat may live about 6 to 10 years, although some live longer when safely cared for. Meerkats belong to the mongoose family, and they are famous for standing upright on their back legs to look for danger. Meerkats live in social groups and help one another. While some members search for beetles, grubs, scorpions, eggs, and other small foods, a lookout watches from a high spot. A special warning call tells the group when it is time to hurry underground. Their burrows can have several entrances and many cool tunnels, giving the family shade from the hot sun and shelter at night. Pups begin exploring near the entrance while older meerkats teach them where to find food and how to stay safe. In this colouring scene, one tall adult keeps watch beside three curious pups. A round burrow entrance, dry grass, smooth rocks, and distant dunes make a simple desert home. Try sandy tan or warm golden brown for the meerkats, with darker brown around the eyes, ears, paws, and tail tips. Leave the tummy a little paler if you wish. Colour the ground beige, the grass straw yellow or light green, and the distant hills peach, ochre, or soft brown. You can add a pale blue sky, a warm yellow sun, or tiny footprints in the sand. Use gentle strokes on the large bodies, shorter strokes for fur, and darker colour near the burrow opening to make it look deep. Most importantly, give every pup its own fun pattern of light and dark fur while keeping the family easy to see.
