Marine Angelfish Colouring Page

Marine angelfish are graceful reef fish with deep, flattened bodies and broad fins. They are different from the smaller freshwater angelfish kept in home aquariums. Marine species live in warm parts of the Atlantic, Indian, and Pacific oceans, usually near coral reefs, rocky slopes, sponges, and sea fans. Many spend the day searching the reef and hide in crevices at night. Their small mouths carry comb-ike teeth that can scrape or nip food. Depending on the species, they eat algae, sponges, tunicates, coral growth, and tiny animals. Some adults travel as pairs and defend a favourite reef area. Size varies widely. Dwarf marine angelfish may be only 8–12 centimetres long, while large French, queen, or emperor angelfish can reach about 40–60 centimetres. Many live around 8–15 years, and some well-protected individuals can live longer. Young angelfish often wear completely different patterns from adults. Juveniles of several species act as cleaners, picking parasites from the skin of larger fish. Their thin shape lets them manoeuvre between rocks, and a strong spine near the gill cover gives extra protection. This page shows a broad-finned marine angelfish beside a tall sea fan. You can create an emperor-inspired pattern with a blue body, golden curved bands, a yellow tail, and a dark blue face. For a French-angelfish look, use a charcoal body with bright yellow edges on the scales and fins. You may also invent pink, teal, orange, or rainbow bands. Keep neighbouring stripes different enough that every shape is easy to see. Sea fans can be red, purple, orange, or coral-pink; colour the rocks tan or warm grey and the seagrass green. A pale turquoise background will suggest clear tropical water, while darker blue near the bottom adds depth. Leave the bubbles white or rim them with light blue. Start with the large body sections, then follow the fin curves with long smooth strokes. Colour the sea fan branch by branch, taking care not to fill the white gaps between its arms. Finish with the eye, mouth, pebbles, and soft water colour so the angelfish remains the brightest part of the picture.
