Lahore Pigeon Colouring

Meet the Lahore, a special fancy pigeon connected with Lahore and the Punjab region of present-day Pakistan and India. Its country or region of origin is Lahore and the Punjab region of present-day Pakistan and India. Its bold pattern is instantly recognisable: a clean white body is framed by a coloured head and neck, coloured wing shields, and a matching tail, while the face and lower body remain white. Feathered feet and a broad, calm body complete the look. The breed takes its name from Lahore, a historic city in the Punjab region. South Asian fanciers kept this type before birds reached Europe in the late nineteenth century, where additional exhibition selection occurred. The record shows gradual work by many keepers rather than one named inventor. Modern standards preserve the sharp division between white and coloured areas. An old South Asian breed brought to Europe in the late nineteenth century and refined by many fanciers; no sole creator is known. The Lahore is a domestic pigeon, not a separate wild species. It is a large, substantial fancy pigeon with a broad breast, horizontal carriage, and moderate foot feathering. Exhibition size is described by body proportions rather than one universal length, so individual birds vary. With a clean, dry loft, room to exercise, balanced pigeon food, mineral grit, fresh water, companionship, and prompt veterinary help, a well-kept domestic pigeon can often live about 8 to 15 years. Decorative feathers need gentle care, and heavily feathered feet or crests should be checked regularly. These birds belong with knowledgeable keepers; children can admire them quietly and let an adult handle all daily care. Traditional coloured sections can be black, blue, silver, red, yellow, brown, or patterned, set against bright white. Choose one main colour and repeat it on the neck, shields, and tail. Leave the face, breast, belly, and flights white with faint cool-grey shadows. Outline the white boundary lightly before filling the coloured sections. Work slowly near the face so the marking stays crisp. Use warm sandstone for the pavilion, white jasmine with yellow centres, rich green mango leaves, and a bright butterfly. Colour the muff feathers with short outward strokes. A pale peach or blue sky adds warmth without competing with the pigeon. This page is also a good exercise in symmetry: compare both wings and keep their colours balanced.
