Indian Fantail Colouring

Meet the Indian Fantail, a special fancy pigeon connected with India and neighbouring South Asian regions. Its country or region of origin is India and neighbouring South Asian regions. Its signature is a very large upright tail opened like a hand fan, paired with a small peak crest, feathered feet, and a proud, slightly upright carriage. The tail contains many broad feathers, creating a rounded screen behind the body. India is the country most consistently named in modern breed standards, while older records show that fantail pigeons were known across several parts of Asia. The Indian Fantail Club of America promotes a written show standard today. Because this is a very old breed shaped gradually, reliable records do not name one inventor or one founding year. An old South Asian fantail tradition refined by generations of fanciers; no single creator or exact creation year is reliably documented. The Indian Fantail is a domestic pigeon, not a separate wild species. It is a small-to-medium fancy breed whose broad tail makes it look larger than its body. Exhibition size is described by body proportions rather than one universal length, so individual birds vary. With a clean, dry loft, room to exercise, balanced pigeon food, mineral grit, fresh water, companionship, and prompt veterinary help, a well-kept domestic pigeon can often live about 8 to 15 years. Decorative feathers need gentle care, and heavily feathered feet or crests should be checked regularly. These birds belong with knowledgeable keepers; children can admire them quietly and let an adult handle all daily care. Indian Fantails can be white, solid coloured, barred, checked, or patterned. Choose snowy white with soft grey shadows, warm red-brown, black, blue-grey, yellow, or your own cheerful combination. Keep the beak pale and add a bright eye with a tiny white shine. On this page the pigeon poses beside a simple garden arch, lotus flowers, marigolds, and a butterfly. Start with the body, then colour each long tail feather from the base outward so the fan stays easy to read. Use short curved strokes on the crest and foot feathers. Try sandstone tan for the arch, pink lotus petals, orange marigolds, two greens for the leaves, and a bright butterfly. Leave plenty of pale space around the fan so it remains the star.
