House Martin Mud Nest Page

A house martin visits its nearly enclosed round mud nest beneath the edge of a tiled roof. One chick looks from the small entrance near the top, while a window and soft clouds show the nest's friendly neighbourhood setting. Colour the adult dark blue, charcoal and white, with a pale underside and tiny dark feet. Give the chick gentle grey-brown feathers. Make the mud pellets sandy tan, reddish clay or warm grey, and colour the roof tiles brick red, orange or brown. Work around the little entrance first, then fill each mud lump so the difference between this dome nest and an open cup nest is easy to see.
