French Bagdad Colouring

French Bagdad is a domestic fancy pigeon connected with France, with older ancestry traditionally linked to Asian or Middle Eastern wattled pigeons. This striking wattle breed has a powerful angular frame, very long neck, high clean-legged stance, long strong beak, sloping head and clearly developed eye ceres and beak wattle. It is a large pigeon, with the French standard placing adults roughly between 700 and 900 grams depending on sex. This is not a wild species with a natural forest or mountain range; it belongs in a clean, dry, well-ventilated loft or aviary where it has suitable perches, fresh water, balanced pigeon food and safe room to move. History detectives should be careful with old breeds. The French Bagdad club states that the breed has been kept in France for centuries. The name suggests a supposed Asian or Middle Eastern connection, but the exact ancestral route is uncertain and should not be presented as proven. No reliable record names one breeder or one founding year. Its present type reflects long French selection for height, powerful bone, angular form and wattle features. Raised in France for centuries and regarded as one of the oldest French pigeon breeds. Its deeper ancestry and a single founder are not reliably documented. A healthy domestic pigeon often lives about 8–15 years, and some well-cared-for birds live longer. Lifespan depends on good food, clean water, safe housing, gentle handling, parasite control and help from an avian veterinarian when needed. Fancy features may need extra attention: short-beaked birds must be watched at feeding time, large croppers need sensible husbandry, and heavily feathered feet should be kept dry and clean. This page is for learning and colouring, not a guide to keeping a bird without an experienced adult. In this scene, a tall French Bagdad pigeon stands in a French garden courtyard beside a stone balustrade and flowers. The background is deliberately simple so the breed remains the star and young artists have large spaces to fill. Choose clean white, glossy black, blue-grey, warm red, yellow or a smart pied pattern. Use pale pink or soft red around the eye cere and beak wattle so those special parts are visible but friendly, and colour the long beak horn-grey. The legs can be rosy red. Make the balustrade light cream, shrubs green and flowers bright pink or blue. Follow the long neck with smooth vertical strokes and keep the eye clear. Avoid making the wattle too dark, because its outline already shows the texture. Children can begin with the pigeon, move to the nearest plants or building, and finish with the ground. Crayons, pencils or washable markers all work well; a scrap sheet beneath the page can protect the table.
