Flamingo Resting Among Water Plants Colouring Page

A peaceful flamingo rests on one long leg among water plants in a sheltered part of the lagoon. Its other leg is tucked up, its rounded body stays upright and its long neck bends back so the bill nestles into the layered shoulder feathers. Broad floating leaves, a lotus flower and upright reeds surround the single bird without covering its graceful outline. How to colour: Colour the resting bird soft blush pink, adding salmon and coral to the folded wing and a small area of deep rose where feathers overlap. Use pale pink on the bill with a black tip, warm golden yellow for the eye and muted rose on the standing leg, deepening the knee joint slightly. Make the lagoon pale blue and aqua with cool blue-grey shadows beneath the bird. Colour the floating leaves jade and emerald green, the reeds olive green and the lotus petals lavender or warm pink with a golden-yellow centre. Lay pale colour first, add short curved strokes to the layered feathers, shade leaves outward from their central veins and keep a few white highlights on the water and bird.
