Figurita Pigeon Colouring

Meet the Valencian Figurita, a tiny fancy pigeon whose name points to Valencia on Spain’s Mediterranean coast. “Figurita” suggests a little figure, which suits this bright, neatly shaped bird. It belongs among the smallest domestic pigeon breeds and has a lively, upright manner, a rounded head, a short tidy beak, and a compact body. Some standards also value a delicate frill of feathers on the front of the neck or chest. Unlike a wild bird with a natural range, the Figurita lives with people in clean lofts and aviaries. The modern National Pigeon Association recognises the breed, but dependable records do not name one inventor or one exact starting year; generations of Spanish and international fanciers shaped it through careful selection. A breed-specific lifespan has not been scientifically established. Like other well-cared-for domestic pigeons, its life depends on safe housing, good food, clean water, exercise, and veterinary care, and many pet pigeons can live for a decade or longer. In this colouring scene, the little pigeon is the star of a sunny Valencian courtyard. Its whole body is visible, so children can compare its petite frame with the broad paving stones and orange-tree leaves. Try colouring the pigeon soft cream, warm brown, charcoal, blue-grey, red, or a cheerful pattern of two colours. Leave a narrow white highlight in the eye to make it sparkle. Orange fruits can be bright orange, their leaves deep and light green, and the blossoms white with yellow centres. Terracotta tiles look lovely in rusty red or warm peach. Begin with the biggest spaces—the body, wings, and courtyard—using light pressure. Then add a slightly darker shade beneath the wing and around the breast frill. Follow the long feather shapes instead of scribbling across them. Young artists can invent a rare show colour, while older children can add tiny seed grains on the ground. Keep the background pale so the miniature pigeon remains easy to notice.
