Field Hockey Colouring Page

Field hockey is a team sport in which players use curved sticks to move a small ball toward a goal. Stick-and-ball games have existed for thousands of years, while modern field hockey rules were organized in England during the nineteenth century. Teams pass, dribble, and carefully strike the ball along a grass or artificial surface. Outfield players use the flat side of the stick, and only the goalkeeper has special permission and protective equipment to stop the ball in the scoring area. Junior games often use a smaller field, fewer players, and simple rules so everyone gets many touches. A field-hockey player keeps the stick low, bends the knees, looks up, and controls the ball with short touches. Useful skills include push passing, receiving, dribbling, and moving into open space. Shin guards, a mouthguard, suitable shoes, and an age-appropriate stick help protect young players. Children should never raise or swing a stick near another person. They listen to the whistle, keep space between bodies, and practise under a coach’s supervision. Teammates call clearly before passing and avoid dangerous contact. Fair play means respecting decisions, helping someone who falls, and celebrating good teamwork as much as a goal. This colouring scene shows two cheerful children moving together on a simple field, with curved sticks, shin guards, a round ball, and a distant goal. Begin with the players. Choose a shared team colour—perhaps royal blue, purple, green, or orange—and add a lighter trim to shirts and shorts. Colour the shin guards in a bright contrasting shade and give the shoes dark soles. Field-hockey sticks may be wood brown or any fun colour, but make the handles different so each stick is easy to see. The ball can be white, yellow, pink, or orange. Use several greens for the grass and bushes, pale grey for the goal frame, and blue around the clouds. Keep the sideline light and clean. Broad sideways strokes can suggest grass without filling every tiny blade, while slower strokes work best around the curved stick heads and shoe laces. You may add a small butterfly safely away from the play, leaving the open path to the goal clear.
