English Nun Colouring

Meet the English Nun, a special fancy pigeon connected with England, United Kingdom, developed from older European nun-type pigeons. Its country or region of origin is England, United Kingdom, developed from older European nun-type pigeons. A coloured head and bib form a hood-like marking against the white body, and the tail repeats the same strong colour. A neat shell crest rises behind the head. The simple, high-contrast pattern gives this lively tumbler an especially clear silhouette. Nun-type pigeons were known in continental Europe, while British fanciers refined the English exhibition form and its precise markings. Nineteenth-century pigeon books already discuss the breed. The common name refers to the hood-like head colour, not to a particular breeder. Records do not identify one undisputed inventor or one exact founding year, so the modern English Nun reflects generations of selection. Refined into its exhibition form by British fanciers over the nineteenth century and earlier traditions; no single creator or exact founding year is securely established. The English Nun is a domestic pigeon, not a separate wild species. It is a small-to-medium, lively tumbler-type pigeon with a compact body and clean legs. Exhibition size is described by body proportions rather than one universal length, so individual birds vary. With a clean, dry loft, room to exercise, balanced pigeon food, mineral grit, fresh water, companionship, and prompt veterinary help, a well-kept domestic pigeon can often live about 8 to 15 years. Decorative feathers need gentle care, and heavily feathered feet or crests should be checked regularly. These birds belong with knowledgeable keepers; children can admire them quietly and let an adult handle all daily care. Keep most of the bird white and choose black, blue, red, yellow, or silver for the hood, bib, flight accents, and tail according to the pattern you want. Use the same main colour everywhere it repeats. Pale grey shadows will give the white breast shape. Mark the edge of the hood lightly before colouring so it stays smooth and symmetrical. Follow the shell crest with short upward strokes. Use red-brown for the brick wall, pink or red for the climbing roses, deep green ivy, and a warm orange breast for the robin. The sky can be very pale blue. A sharpened pencil is useful around the face and bib line; broad crayons make the wall and leaves quick to fill. Leave a tiny white shine in both birds’ eyes.
