Dutch Capuchine Colouring

Meet the Old Dutch Capuchine, a special fancy pigeon connected with The Netherlands, with older hooded-pigeon ancestry brought through European trade. Its country or region of origin is The Netherlands, with older hooded-pigeon ancestry brought through European trade. A tall shell crest rises behind the head and continues into a mane and a neat chain of feathers along the sides of the neck. Unlike the more enclosing Jacobin hood, the Capuchine’s structure leaves the face open and clearly visible. Its compact body often carries attractive monk-like colour markings. Dutch fanciers developed the breed over centuries from older hooded pigeons that reached Europe through trade. Similar birds appear in early Dutch art, confirming a long history in the Netherlands. The name refers to the hooded appearance associated with Capuchin friars. Because the type evolved gradually, no reliable source names one breeder or a single year of creation. Developed in the Netherlands over several centuries and pictured by early Dutch artists; no single founder or exact creation year is documented. The Old Dutch Capuchine is a domestic pigeon, not a separate wild species. It is a small-to-medium fancy pigeon with a compact body and an open, upright neck structure. Exhibition size is described by body proportions rather than one universal length, so individual birds vary. With a clean, dry loft, room to exercise, balanced pigeon food, mineral grit, fresh water, companionship, and prompt veterinary help, a well-kept domestic pigeon can often live about 8 to 15 years. Decorative feathers need gentle care, and heavily feathered feet or crests should be checked regularly. These birds belong with knowledgeable keepers; children can admire them quietly and let an adult handle all daily care. Common exhibition patterns combine a white body with black, red, yellow, blue, or silver areas on the head, wings, and tail. Match the repeated coloured areas carefully. Use light grey beneath the mane to show its shape without making it look solid. This Dutch garden scene includes a canal bridge, tulips, reeds, and a dragonfly. Colour the pigeon before the setting. Follow the shell crest upward, the mane downward, and the side chain forward with separate strokes. Try brick red or soft grey for the bridge, bright red and yellow tulips, green reeds, and blue water with thin white reflections. Keep the sky pale and leave a tiny white gleam in the eye. Pencils help with the neck structure, while crayons work well on the bridge and water.
