Christmas Window Colouring

A family has gathered at the window to hang one enormous paper star for Christmas. Two grown-ups lift the ribbon while two children help support the lower points, so everyone has an important job. Outside, simple snowflakes make the winter sky feel quiet and bright. Inside, the curtains, window panes and little plant create a homely setting without hiding the star. Look at how many points the star has and notice which hands are holding the ribbon and which are keeping the decoration straight. This page is about cooperation, sharing jobs and the lovely tradition of placing a light or star in a window to spread welcome and festive cheer. Make the star the brightest feature on the page. It could be sunny yellow, sparkling gold, bold red, icy blue or a rainbow of colours, with each point coloured differently. If you want it to look like folded paper, choose one main colour and press a little more firmly along a few inner edges. Colour the ribbon in a contrasting shade so it is easy to follow from the star to the top of the window. Give every family member a different jumper or dress colour, then repeat small touches of those colours on the curtains or plant pot. Hair can be any realistic or imaginative shade, and skin tones can reflect your own family or a wonderfully diverse Christmas gathering. Try cool pale blues outside the glass and warm colours inside the room to show the difference between winter outdoors and a cosy home. The curtains could be red, green, purple or patterned with simple dots that you add yourself. Keep the window frames cream, brown or grey, and colour the snowflakes very lightly so they stay crisp. Younger artists can use broad crayons on the large star and clothes. Older children can add a gentle night-sky gradient in each window pane, tiny white sparkle spaces on the star and leaf veins on the plant. Work from the top of the page downward to avoid rubbing finished areas, turn the page when colouring awkward star points, and finish by checking that the great window star remains the happiest, brightest part of the picture.
