Judo Colouring Page

Judo is a Japanese martial art and Olympic sport created by Jigoro Kano in 1882. Its name is often translated as the gentle way. Instead of punching or kicking in a judo contest, athletes use controlled throws, pins, and carefully regulated grappling techniques. The aim is to use balance, timing, movement, and an opponent's force intelligently rather than relying only on size or strength. Judoka, the name for judo practitioners, wear a strong jacket, trousers, and belt together called a judogi. Lessons begin and end with a bow to show respect. Beginners first learn ukemi, or safe breakfalls, so they can land across the mat without putting all the force on one hand, elbow, or head. They also practise posture, gripping, stepping, and simple throws with a cooperative partner. Judo can develop coordination, flexibility, courage, patience, and responsibility. Safety depends on a qualified instructor, clean padded mats called tatami, suitable partners, and careful progression. Children remove jewellery, keep nails short, tie the belt securely, stop immediately when instructed, and never practise throws or holds without supervision. A partner is not an enemy; both learners help each other improve. Judoka bow, follow the referee, and accept wins and losses calmly. This page shows two smiling children bowing to each other before practice. Their judogi are neatly tied, the mats are clear, and an instructor stands nearby. A shoe rack, simple wall scroll with no writing, and folded training belts give the dojo a calm, organised feeling. Traditional judogi are often white or blue, so you could colour one pale blue and leave the other mostly white with soft grey shadows drawn only through your pencil pressure. Give each belt a clear solid colour such as yellow, orange, green, or blue. The instructor's uniform can be white with a dark belt. Colour the tatami in alternating pale green and cream, or light blue and grey, while keeping the boundary strip darker. Wooden details can be warm brown, and the folded belts can form a small rainbow. Use long strokes along the loose sleeves and trousers, square strokes across the mats, and short careful strokes near fingers, toes, collars, and belt knots. As you colour, notice the matching bows and peaceful faces. They show that respect, self-control, and safe partnership are central to judo.
