Black Bear Cubs Colouring

Join an American black bear mother and her two cubs as they explore a quiet woodland. American black bears are native to North America and live from Canada and Alaska through much of the United States and into northern Mexico. They use many habitats, including deciduous forests, mountain woodlands, swamps, and some coastal areas. Their excellent sense of smell helps them find berries, nuts, insects, tender plants, and other foods. On this page the family investigates leaves and mushrooms beneath a tree, a peaceful activity that shows their curious nature. An adult black bear may be about 1.2 to 2 metres long. Females commonly weigh around 40 to 140 kilograms, while large males can be much heavier. Wild individuals often live 18 to 25 years, although many face dangers before reaching old age. Cubs are born in a winter den and remain with their mother for about a year and a half. She shows them where to forage, when to climb, and how to avoid trouble. Black bear cubs are excellent climbers, and even adults can climb when they need safety or food. Rounded ears and a fairly straight facial profile help distinguish them from many brown bears. The name “black bear” does not mean every coat must be jet black. Depending on the region, fur can be black, chocolate, cinnamon, blond, or even bluish grey. Colour the mother and cubs alike, or choose slightly different natural shades for each animal. Use a pale tan around the muzzles and add dark noses. The woodland can glow with spring greens, summer greens, or autumn gold, orange, and red. Mushrooms may be red, yellow, beige, or purple, but remind young children never to eat wild mushrooms without an adult expert. Use broad crayon strokes on the bears and tree trunk, then pencils for claws, ears, eyes, and leaf edges. Colour the open ground lightly so the family remains the focus. Follow the fur lines, leave eye highlights white, and layer two similar shades to make the coats soft. Your finished picture can celebrate a bear family learning together among the sights and smells of the forest.
