Baby Swallow Peeking Out of the Nest Colouring Page

A baby swallow peeks over the rim of a rounded mud nest beneath a quiet ledge. Its small head, bright eyes and first fluffy feathers rise above the textured nest wall. The simple close view makes the curious chick the clear centre of the scene. How to colour: Use soft warm grey for the chick's fluffy head and shoulders, slate blue-grey for its developing crown feathers, and pale cream for its throat. Colour the tiny bill grey with a muted yellow edge. Make the nest from sandy tan, ochre and warm brown mud pellets, placing darker brown only in the gaps. Use cool light grey on the ledge. Apply short feather-like pencil strokes around the chick, then colour the nest one rounded pellet at a time. Add a tiny white highlight to each eye and keep the space around the chick pale for contrast.
